So, Industrial Farmhouse is a thing…and it is amazing! For the past 5 years farmhouse ceiling fans have been all the rage. They have exploded in popularity, and rightfully so. They add a bold statement to the farmhouse esthetic you have worked so hard to bring to your home. Their classy lines and touches of barn wood and matte painted metal add striking beauty to every room.
We are so lucky to be living in the golden age of ceiling fans. Just a few years ago you could design amazing unique spaces in every part of your home, but then you would be left with some very limited, and oftentimes, dismill options for ceiling fans. Ceiling fan manufactures were not keeping up with the trends. Many rooms were robbed of that final touch, that statement piece that capped off the whole feel of the space. Now, the manufacturers have caught up with the times and we have access to amazing designs that fit any imagination or feel. Not only do we have the designs we need, but we also have them at every price point. Even budget ceiling fans can be found with great design elements for any look you are going for.
Farmhouse has had its rightful place on the top of the ceiling fan trends for a few years now but, as they do, trends are starting to evolve. Farmhouse will remain relevant for a long time but it is also evolving to have a greater reach and make its place in even more design settings. Enter Industrial Farmhouse.
Industrial Farmhouse pulls from elements of both Industrial and Farmhouse design esthetics. Both of these design styles have been dominating the market for the past few years, it makes perfect sense that they would merge together to create such a beautiful look.
Design Review
I was searching on Amazon for a new ceiling fan for a friend and I came across this beautiful example of Industrial Farmhouse. The Carnegie 52 inch ceiling fan with LED light. Besides the look of it, the first thing that caught my eye was the brand. This is a Honeywell fan. Honeywell is a huge company with a long history of quality…but most people don’t think of them when it comes to ceiling fans. Honeywell has been one of the largest and leading climate control companies in the world since the early 1900s. They have been making electric fans for decades. It makes sense that they would get into the ceiling fan game. Anytime I see the Honeywell name I think of quality, and the looks of the Carnegie ceiling fan scream quality as well.
After being intrigued by the brand name, the design itself captured my attention. My eye was immediately drawn to the rustic 52” barnwood blades. Not only is the color and texture captivating, but the shape is bold with their square edges paying homage to its industrial side. The blades are a perfect blending of farmhouse, with its rough textured and rustic colored barnwood, and industrial, with its strong edges and squared off ends.
I then noticed the details of its subtle but beautifully stylized motor housing. The multi-tiered rounded features wrap the heart of the fan with sturdy assurance. The matte black paint is strong and functional, staying true to both farmhouse and industrial standards. The downrod and round mounting bracket housing tie it into the ceiling with subtle strength as well.
The round mesh cage light housing then caught my attention. This is where the industrial elements take full force. It is the perfect size, not too big, and not too small, just right, Goldie Locks would approve.
Within the mesh housing are three sideways facing good sized light sockets holding three beautiful classic LED edison bulbs. The artistic glowing filament lighting the room they hang above. It truly is a beautiful piece.
Reviews Summary
After admiring the look of the fan and reading through its features, I then turned to the customer reviews. I’m always pleased when I see reviews over a 4.0. This one was well above that at 4.5 stars. Not only that but it also had over 1200 reviews, which means this ceiling fan has truly earned all 4.5 of those stars.
Most of the reviews comment on how great it looks. Anytime you upgrade a fan it changes the look of the room. Many people mention how they love that this fan matches the industrial farmhouse look they are going for.
Complaints
There are some complaints about the airflow of the fan. With this warning we recommend you put it in rooms that are not too big or with ceilings that are not too high. The manufacturer recommends its use in rooms that are 12”x12” to 18”x18”, but from the reviews it sounds like you should shoot for the lower end of that spectrum. Another complaint that came up often is the struggle to install it. From many of the reviews it sounds like a lot of the people were inexperienced and may have mostly struggled because of that. If you haven’t installed a fan before, check out our other articles on the site for pro tips on how to install a fan quickly, easily, and correctly. Many of the installation complaints were about the remote control unit. People struggled to fit it into the hanging bracket cover. Many other reviewers pointed out that the remote control unit has to be inserted a certain way or it won’t go it. It sounds like most of the people who struggled with this did so because they were trying to cram it in the incorrect way. Make sure to read the instructions carefully and if it doesn’t fit one way, try a different angle.
Price Point
The price point of this fan is incredible. At well under $150 it is in most people’s budget for a new ceiling fan. It is a little higher than the budget fan, but for the style, it is well below what you would expect.
Conclusion
If you are in the market for a lower cost, but high quality Industrial Farmhouse Ceiling fan with light, the Carnegie by Honeywell might be the perfect fit for you.
